Training week 6
Objective
w Complete a simple course using the
techniques learnt in previous weeks
w Teach your dog left and right U turn over jumps
w Introduce the long jump
w Link the tyre with other equipment
The small 3 pieces of the long jump were set up close together straddled by
a jump.
All
the jumps and the tyre are set on the lowest position.
Height is not important when working on control exercises.
Course
Three exercises were set up this week and handler were all split into
three group and spent 20 minutes on each section.
Exercise 1
A simple jumping course started at the turn. Each handler was
asked to leave their dog and walk past the first jump then call when the stay
was steady. Complete the remaining obstacles ending back at the start where
the toy had been left. It was the first time a U type turn had been introduced
so the turn command is very important here. The exercise was then completed
in reverse.

The main purpose of this section is to link various pieces of equipment
together moving smoothly between them without losing control. Starting at the
first jump leave the dog and walk to the bottom of the dog walk call and stop
in the correct position, Go just past the next jump call and guide into tunnel
move across gain control and continue to the weaves and last jump to the toy(of
course). Then complete in reverse.
Exercise
3 ![]()
The long jump was set up and then a jump was placed over the top. By introducing
it in this way the dog hardly notices any change. Start by recalling the tyre
walking out from both sides. When confident recall tyre and long jump. Lastly
recall as before and send over last jump to your toy. Next complete the exercise
from each side, remember leave the dog and go past the tyre before calling.
Move with the dog over the long jump and send to toy.
