Training week 5
Objective
w Complete a simple course using the
techniques learnt in previous weeks
w Teach your dog left and right turn over jumps
w Link the tyre with the weave
poles
All the jumps and the tyre are set on the lowest position.
Height is not important when working on control exercises.
Small course
Again this week we are using a small course broken down in sections.
Linking pieces of equipment together in order to keep the focus on what's coming
next and not YOU. No new equipment was introduced.
Section 1
Starting from the centre, recall over 3 jumps and send over the fourth - right
hand turn through the tunnel and send over the last jumps to your toy.
Praise the dog with the toy at the finish.
Section 2
Starting from the centre, recall over 3 jumps and send over the fourth
- left hand turn and guide the dog onto the dog walk, stop in the correct
position and leave on the touch point while walking towards the last jump. When
you are confident that the stay is firm, call and send over the finish to your
toy.
These exercises were then repeated working from the outside and finishing down
the middle.
If at any stage you feel like you are losing control stop, place the dog in
the sit and continue from the jump before you encountered the problem. Take
care not to rush, control is the important factor even on the straight sections.
Section 3
Just two obstacles in this section - the staggered weave poles and the tyre.
After practising the two pieces of equipment separately, link them together
by sitting the dog in front of the tyre, walk to the entrance of the weave and
call, guide into the first pole and complete the weave as before. Then repeat
in opposite direction.
If you are really lucky then you get to stay at home during week 5 and watch Manchester United thump Arsenal!!
