Training week 16
Objective
w Complete a simple helter skelter course
w Complete the see-saw
w More work on weave entry

4 Small pieces of the long jump were set slightly more apart.
All the jumps and the tyre are set to 24".
The A frame was set to full height.
The weave poles are still slightly staggered for some dogs but straight up for
others.
Course
A flowing left hand Helter skelter was set up this week to give the dogs
and handlers confidence and to help show them that they are progressing.
The Start
As per last week the dogs were gently encouraged over the see-saw which was
tipped by hand as the they reached the center point. Handler on one side trainer
on the other. They were then left with front paws on the floor and back paws
on the touch point while the handler walked to the tyre. Recall the tyre and
move with dog to next jump over the A frame, leave again and go to tunnel entrance
call and move to next jump move steadily with your dog (do not get into a race)
if you feel you are losing control, slow down or stop regain composure and then
continue. Use the same techniques to finish the course. Let the dog attempt
to enter the weaves and then send over last jump to toy.
If the weave go wrong go back to the entry and start again. Repeat three
times that all there is to it . All dogs completed the course some having minor
problems at the weaves.
To finish the evening the course was attempted in reverse with the dog
on the right, stopping before the see-saw which was completed as a separate
piece of equipment. This proved a little more demanding with only one dog being
able to complete the course (more right hand work required).
